Connect Google Analytics and Google Ads

Last updated 2026-11-03

See how many people visit your website and booking pages, which of them send an enquiry or pay for a booking, and which ads brought them.

When you'd use this

  • You want to know where your website visitors and online bookings come from.
  • You run Google Ads and want to see which ads lead to enquiries and bookings.

Before you start

  • You need to be a manager or owner in DiveOps.
  • You need your own Google Analytics account. It is free. For ads, you also need your own Google Ads account.
  • The reports belong to you and live in your Google account. These codes only send numbers to Google. To see those numbers inside DiveOps as well, connect Google reports. See Search & AI visibility.

How to connect Google Analytics

  1. In Google Analytics, go to Admin, then Data streams, and open your website. If you don't have one yet, create a web stream for your website address.
  2. Copy the Measurement ID. It starts with G-.
  3. On the same screen, open Measurement Protocol API secrets. The first time, Google asks you to press Review terms and confirm that you tell your visitors about the data you collect. Your cookie banner and privacy page do this, and the confirmation is yours to give. Then press Create, give it a name and copy the secret value.
  4. In DiveOps, go to Settings, then Integrations, then Google Analytics and Ads.
  5. Paste both into Measurement ID and API secret, then press Save. If you have connected Google reports, DiveOps offers your Measurement ID: press Use this code. You still paste the API secret.

The API secret is what makes paid bookings count. Without it, Analytics sees visits but no sales.

Your website and booking pages now show a cookie banner, and visitors who accept start counting.

How to connect Google Ads

  1. In Google Ads, go to Goals, then Conversions, and create a conversion for enquiries. Open its Tag setup.
  2. Copy the Conversion ID, which starts with AW-, and the label. You can paste the whole snippet into Conversion ID in DiveOps, and it fills in both boxes.
  3. Press Save. Enquiries from your website contact form now count in Google Ads.

How to see paid bookings in Google Ads

Paid bookings reach Google Ads through Analytics, so you link the two once.

  1. In Google Analytics, go to Admin, then Product links, then Google Ads links, and link your Ads account.
  2. In Google Ads, check that auto-tagging is on.
  3. Make one paid booking on your website, or wait for your next one. It can take up to a day or two to appear in Analytics.
  4. In Google Analytics, go to Admin, then Events, and check that purchase has its star, which marks it as a key event.
  5. In Google Ads, go to Goals, then Summary, and create a conversion action. Choose Import, then Google Analytics 4 properties, select purchase and save.
  6. Google imports it as a secondary conversion. If you want your ads to bid on bookings, change it to primary.

Google changes these menus from time to time, so the names may differ slightly.

What gets counted

  • Visits and enquiries count while the visitor is on your website and booking pages, if they accepted the cookie banner.
  • Paid bookings count once per order. DiveOps tells Analytics after the payment goes through, usually within about 15 minutes.
  • The amount is what the customer booked across courses, stays and shop items, without the card fee. A booking paid by deposit counts at its full value when the deposit is paid, and a later balance payment adds nothing.

What doesn't get counted

  • Visitors who decline the cookie banner. Your Analytics numbers will be lower than your DiveOps numbers, and that is normal.
  • Bookings made over WhatsApp or at the counter.
  • Refunds. Analytics shows revenue before refunds, so DiveOps is your true figure for money.

What your customers see

  • The first time someone visits, they choose what to allow: Visits and statistics, Advertising, both or neither. Nothing goes to Google before they choose.
  • They can change their mind at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of the page.
  • Google doesn't run on the details, medical and payment steps of a booking.
  • DiveOps never sends names, email addresses or phone numbers to Google for this.

Tips

  • Paid bookings can take a day or two to appear in Google's reports. Check again before you assume something is wrong.
  • Keep your API secret private. Once saved, DiveOps shows it only as Saved. If you lose it, create a new one and press Replace.

Troubleshooting

  • Symptom: no paid bookings in Analytics → Cause / fix: check that API secret says Saved, and that the customer accepted Visits and statistics. Bookings where they declined aren't sent.
  • Symptom: purchase isn't on the Events list in Analytics → Cause / fix: it appears after the first paid booking arrives. Give it a day or two.
  • Symptom: purchase isn't offered when you import into Google Ads → Cause / fix: Google can take a day or two after you link the accounts or mark the event. Try again later.
  • Symptom: you want to stop → Cause / fix: press Turn off Google on the same screen. Your codes are removed and nothing more is sent. What is already in Google stays there.
