The Overview is the page you land on when you sign in. There are two boards - a Manager command-centre and a simpler Team board - and which one you see depends on your role.
When you'd use this
- Checking at a glance whether today is on track and what needs you now (Manager board).
- Reading the day's notices, seeing your own assigned dive groups, and checking the weather and tide (Team board).
The two boards
- Manager Overview - the command-centre for today. Under the greeting, one line sums up the day (trips, people on them, who isn't ready, wind and the next high tide). On a computer the page has two columns. Left, the day's work: On the water now (only while a boat or divers are out), Needs attention, Ready to dive, Today's trips, Coming up. Right, the team's reference: Notices, Conditions (weather and tides), Staff today, and the fleet map (only with a GPS tracker reporting). On a phone the cards stack with Needs attention and Notices first. Trend figures (bookings taken, dives delivered, WhatsApp share, reply times) live in Metrics. Money figures live in Finance.
- Team Overview - a simpler everybody board: the notice board, My trips (the trips you are on today and tomorrow), your assigned dive groups, weather and tide. No money, no management KPIs.
Senior staff who can see both get a Manager / Team toggle in the top right to switch between them. Everyone else just sees the board their role is set to. Everyone can reach an Overview - nobody lands on a blank page.
The Manager command-centre, card by card
- Only the cards that apply - the board sets itself up from what your centre uses. No GPS tracker on a boat, no fleet map. WhatsApp assistant off, no WhatsApp figures and no Waiting for Reply. No tide times for your location, no tide card. Fit a tracker or switch the assistant on and the card appears by itself.
- Ready to dive - everyone booked for today and tomorrow, with a count of who is ready (for example 10 of 27 ready). Below it, one line per thing still missing: the doctor said no or a doctor's sign-off is still needed (in red, they can't dive yet), no medical form, a certificate not checked (fun dives only; courses, snorkelling and other non-dive activities are never asked), and bookings that still owe money (only if you can see payments). Tap a line to see the divers, and tap a diver to open their booking. The card is hidden on days with nobody booked.
- Needs attention - one list of everything that needs you, safety first (in red): trips today without an instructor, boats oversold, divers overdue back from the water. Then: chats waiting for a reply, upcoming bookings that need a doctor's sign-off, course students with no instructor in the next 7 days, bookings to confirm in the next 30 days, leave and boat sign-ups to approve, staff credentials expiring, gear and boats due for service, and service jobs in the workshop. Each line opens the page that fixes it. You only see lines your role can act on, and the whole list disappears on an all-clear day. If a line says Couldn't check, that count failed to load: open it to look, or refresh.
- Today's trips and Tomorrow's trips - two cards, one line per trip on that day's trip sheet: time, boat and site, people on board against the spaces, and the staff on it. People on board is the same count as the Planner: customers, staff on the roster, the instructors leading groups and trainee divemasters signed up to the boat. A red No instructor tag marks a trip where a group has nobody leading it. Tomorrow's sheet is often still a draft the night before, and its card says so (Not final yet). Tap a trip to open the trip sheet. Tomorrow's card only appears for centres that use trip sheets. On a day with no trip sheet, Starting today shows who is arriving and for what instead.
- On the water now - boats moving with a fresh GPS position, and divers in the water from Diver Watch, with the time everyone is due back. A red line means a group is overdue. It only appears while something is out.
- Coming up - how many divers are booked tomorrow and who is arriving, plus a bar for each of the next 14 days (tap a bar to open that day). If these figures can't load, the card says so.
- My trips (Team board) - the trips you are on, today and tomorrow: the time, boat and site, your part (leading a group, boat captain or on board) and how many are on the boat. A draft trip sheet shows with Not final yet. It only appears for centres that use the Planner or trip sheets.
- Staff today - who is working on today's trips, who is off today, and who is off in the next 14 days (leave still waiting for approval is marked pending).
- Chats waiting for a reply now show as one line in Needs attention that opens the WhatsApp inbox.
- Fleet map - a mini-map of your boats' live positions and the last 24 hours of their tracks. Shows once a boat has the optional GPS tracker fitted and reporting.
Choosing which board a role sees
Which board a role lands on is controlled by two permissions in Settings → Roles & Permissions, under the Pages group:
- Manager Overview - tick this for roles that should see the command-centre.
- Team Overview - tick this for roles that should see the Team board (on by default for every role).
Tick both for a role and that person gets the Manager/Team toggle. See roles.md.
Notices
Notices sit near the top of both boards.
- Pinned notices come first, then the three newest. Notices more than 30 days old fold under Older; tap it to see them.
- A pinned notice that has been up for over 30 days says pinned since and the date, as a hint to check it is still true.
- Links show as a small chip (for example Google Doc) instead of the full web address. Tap it to open the link in a new tab.
- Managers (anyone with the Manager Overview permission) see New notice. Type the message, tick Pin to the top if it should stay first, then press Post. Cancel or the Esc key closes it without posting.
- To pin, unpin or delete a notice, point at it (or tap it on a phone) and use the pin or bin button. Delete asks you to confirm, because the notice disappears for everyone.
Weather and tide cards
The Manager board shows one Conditions card: the weather now (temperature, sky, wind in knots) and the next two tides. The Team board shows separate weather and tide cards.
- The cards are labelled with your place name (e.g. your island or town), not your centre name.
- Weather is live. Tide times are generated by DiveOps for your location - if your tide card is empty, your location hasn't been set up for tides yet (see below). The cards quietly hide rather than error when data is missing: on the Team board the tide card disappears when your location has no tide times. If tide times fail to load, the card says so instead.
- Tide times are a planning guide, not for navigation.
Setting your location (for weather and tide)
The cards need to know where your centre is. Set it once in Centre Info → Hours & Locale:
- Open Settings → Centre Info and scroll to the Hours & Locale card.
- Under Location (for weather & tides), click the map or drag the pin to your centre's spot (or type the Latitude and Longitude).
- The Location name fills in automatically from the map (e.g. your island or town) - edit it if you want a different label. This is what shows on the cards.
- Save. Weather updates straight away; tide tables are generated by DiveOps per location.
Tips
- For an offshore pin, the auto-filled name may come back as a province rather than the island or dive area - just type the right name into Location name.
- The Overview no longer shows any revenue or money figures - those live in Finance (still gated by View pricing & revenue).
- When your booking page takes several products in one checkout (an order), Bookings taken and WhatsApp booked count the order once, the same as Metrics. In Starting today and Starting tomorrow, each booking in an order is listed on its divers' own dates and named after its first diver (the person who booked may not be diving).
Troubleshooting
- Symptom: the tide card is missing from the Manager board, or empty on the Team board, but weather works → Cause / fix: your location is set but DiveOps hasn't generated tides for it yet. Weather is instant; tides are precomputed per location - contact DiveOps support.
- Symptom: the cards show your centre name, not a place name → Cause / fix: set Location name under Centre Info → Hours & Locale.
- Symptom: a role lands on the Team board but should see the Manager board → Cause / fix: tick Manager Overview for that role in Roles & Permissions.
